ODETE THE SAVIOR
Odete Martins Bigote
When I was a teenager, and living in Portugal, my greatest dream was to save the country from Antonio Salazar - our dictator for over 30 years.
After a few secret meetings with other girls from my school, we organized our first plan of action. We showed up across the street from the headquarters of the opposition leader, General Delgado, in Lisbon.
In unison, we started to shout: "We want to see the General. We want to see the general." After a while, we could see a few people staring at us from one of the windows of the headquarters. We made victory signs. They, on the other hand, started to make gestures begging us to go away before the police arrived to arrest us.
We were very disappointed that none of them looked like General Delgado. I was particularly disappointed with their attitude to suggest to us to go away. We all went home feeling very sad. But, we never told anybody about our first experience in politics.
Then, I began to realize that there were other things to do in life. I started to plan to go abroad. I finally made it to England at the tender age of 21.
Little did I know that was the road I chose to begin a life-long journey to save not my country, but myself.
It does not matter what society or family tells us - travel, work and study - should be part of everyone's education. Albert Einstein said: "Never loose a holy curiosity." I like this sentence, I agree with it.
I think that most schools, universities and even families try to kill our curiosity, which is so essential for all of us to question and explore the world around us, and the world within us.
I was fortunate enough to follow my inner guidance and break all the barriers to resistance to change, and go! As Joseph Campbell said: FOLLOW YOUR BLISS.
It is interesting to note that I was not aware of following any inner guidance. At the age of 21, I was, of course, more preoccupied with the "outer" than with the "inner."
It took me many years to realize that only an angel could have persuaded me to make such a profound change, and to make me aware of the importance of my "inner guidance."
Upon my arrival in England, I became a mere witness to all events around me. Books were not necessary. I remember attending classes without studying. I was in perfect awe. All was ecstasy and contemplation. For the first time in my life, I was free from many kinds of chains that I had built in my mind. In accordance with medical tests I took, I was stress-free for many decades.
Years later, there was a reversal in my thought system: I became an avid reader. I was surprised to find out not only from scientists and spiritual leaders, but also from other writers that everything in this world is an illusion and that reality is within us.
Campbell wrote, "Everything that is transitory is a metaphor." This sentence started me on a continuous road to salvation from my own thoughts of anger, guilt resentment, and so forth.
I wanted to experience the reality within me. I wanted to understand what prevented me from looking within.
We complain about the damage others do to us. Yet, we pay no attention to the fact that we do not feed our bodies and our minds with the right food; therefore, we damage ourselves beyond belief.
Do you ever take off from your usual routine to relax and to listen to your inner self? You don't have to be religious to do this, but you need to be willing to think differently.
Is life an easy road? Of course not. But the spiritual road is always available to help you understand your role in the universe. The spiritual road has its ups and downs too but, the journey is made a little easier with the help of The Reality within you.
This Reality shows you the way to the Ultimate Truth. Think about this quote:
Ponder on this quote over and over again until you begin to understand and see yourself differently, and conclude that your life was beautifully programmed. Everyone you meet was carefully chosen; from the most lovely person to the least pleasant one. You and everyone else have a chosen mission to accomplish while you are here on earth, whether you like the idea or not.
You've to be careful, though. We have a tendency, at least, at the beginning, to start to blame that Reality within us (God, Higher Self, Intelligent Design, and so forth) for all our problems. Why? Could it be that the thought of separation from that Reality was taught to us at a very young age? Or could it be that we failed to educate ourselves? If your answer is "YES " to both questions, I've good news for you; you can and must correct your misperceptions right NOW. You'll feel healthier and at peace.
Science has given us a great tool to understand our interconnectedness and oneness; a photo in 3 dimensions called the hologram. When we want to make a reproduction of the hologram, we do not need a negative, we need only a very small piece of the photograph. Why? Because the whole information is contained in every little piece; there is no separation. And, there is no world out there. Within you is all the reality there is, within you is all the information there is. You may think you are just such a small unit yet, you know all there is to know. Without you there would be no hologram, no thought of an Ultimate Reality, and no earth.
The word of the Lord came to Jeremiah as a remembrance of his oneness with HIM.
God does not choose alone, because He never separated from us, just like the pieces in the hologram.
Your short life on earth is your responsibility. You choose to come here to save yourself from your erroneous thoughts, and to learn to see the Light again, because you forgot.
By now, Portugal has been "saved." The country has been free from the dictatorial government for over two decades. The question is: what are the people doing with their freedom? During the dictatorship, Bibles were not to be read or studied, only the priests could do that. Many other books were banned. People could not have meetings to discuss their religion or any other topics. Everyone blamed their problems on the government. Now, since they are free, do they realize they always had free will to change their minds about their erroneous thought system?
No one can save us, but ourselves, and the journey is ongoing under any circumstances.
